The Friends Of The Border To Border Trail…
A Final Transition
Sunday, May 31st, 2020 will be the last day that the Friends of the Border To Border Trail to exist as an independent, 501c3 non-profit organization. Starting June 1st, the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) will be gradually re-establishing the Friends of the Border To Border Trail as a committee of that organization.
Over the past few months, the Friends Board of Directors have been working with the HWPI to make this transition, while at the same time following state and federal laws on closing down a non-profit organization. These procedures involved having the Friends membership vote to dissolve the organization (and donating all funds to HWPI for Trail development & construction which in the end was $3503.69), obtaining State approval to dissolve, first from the Attorney General’s office then from the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory, and finally file dissolution of a non-profit forms with the federal Internal Revenue Service.
Before we leave, the Friends of the Border To Border Trail would like to thank everyone who supported the group, and it’s goals of “completing, enhancing, and encouraging the use
of, the Border To Border Trail” since it’s founding in 2008. We especially thank, however, those who became members of the Friends, and those who volunteered to serve on the Board of Directors, “adopt” a section of B2B Trail, or helped the organization in other ways. Your time and dedication to the Trail was very much appreciated.
We also encourage everyone to be aware of, support, and volunteer with, the Huron Waterloo Pathway Initiative (HWPI). Take some time to tour their web page at http://huron-waterloo-pathways.org, if on Facebook, “like” their pages (at www.facebook.com/hwpathways, www.facebook.com/B2BTrail, and www.facebook.com/groups/241545410365413), volunteer at https://forms.gle/bK87nzaTpkKvXqxd8 and subscribe to their newsletter at http://eepurl.com/cOv8xj. Most of all, get out and enjoy the Border To Border Trail by taking a walk or a bike ride!
